🪸 Return to discovery… with purpose 🦋 Earlier this year, Dunk Island was proud to partner with @citizensofthereef for the Great Reef Census 6 - the largest data collection effort in the program’s history. Over three days, our team joined scientists, Traditional Owners, and community members to survey reefs from the Barnard and Brook Islands to the outer reefs of Beaver and Taylor contributing to a global dataset helping protect the Great Barrier Reef. What we saw:
🪸 Signs of coral resilience in inshore reefs
🪸 Expanded monitoring of locally significant reef systems
🪸 A true collaboration between tourism, science, and community Thank you Great Barrier Reef Safaris for the collaboration, Girringun Aboriginal Corporation, Mandaburra Aboriginal Corporation and MBL Bananas for taking part. This is what “Return to Discovery” means to us - not just experiencing the reef, but actively caring for it.
